At Bogue Milk Soap, our philosophy begins with what we have always known: good products start with thoughtfully chosen ingredients. For three generations, our family has crafted goat milk soap and botanical bath, body, and wellness products in Ojai, California, bringing together fresh goat milk, plant-based oils and butters, botanicals, mineral clays, and pure essential oils. We call this approach Farm to Bath—a connection between ingredients, traditional craftsmanship, and the everyday rituals they become part of.
Our approach begins by staying close to the ingredients themselves. Fresh goat milk is combined with more than twelve plant-based oils and butters in our signature soap base, then complemented by botanicals, mineral clays, herbal ingredients, and pure essential oils selected for each individual blend.
Every bar is made in small batches using traditional cold process soapmaking methods, then given the time it needs to cure before being finished by hand in our Ojai workshop. Working at this scale allows us to remain involved from formulation and ingredient selection through the finished bar. The result is long-lasting handcrafted goat milk soap with a rich, creamy lather and the distinctive character that comes from making something slowly and with purpose.
Goat milk has been at the heart of Bogue soapmaking since our family's first bars were created in Ojai in 1973. Naturally rich in fats and proteins, it contributes to the creamy, conditioning lather that distinguishes a well-made goat milk soap and helps skin feel soft and comfortable after cleansing.
Its naturally occurring lactic acid also provides gentle exfoliation as part of the cleansing ritual, while our carefully balanced plant oils and butters help create a bar that cleanses without leaving skin feeling unnecessarily stripped. This combination has made handcrafted goat milk soap especially appealing to people seeking a more nourishing alternative to conventional body cleansers, particularly for dry or easily stressed skin.
For us, however, goat milk is more than a featured ingredient. It is the foundation upon which more than five decades of botanical soapmaking have been built—a starting point that allows us to explore clays, herbs, essential oils, natural exfoliants, and the distinctive botanical blends that have come to define Bogue Milk Soap.

For Bogue, Farm to Bath is less a slogan than a way of staying connected to what goes into a product and why it belongs there.
Small-batch production allows us to remain closely involved with each formula throughout the making process. From blending oils and botanicals to pouring and curing cold process soap, working on a smaller scale supports the hands-on craftsmanship that has always been part of Bogue. It also gives individual blends room to have their own ingredients, textures, essential oil profiles, and purpose rather than forcing every product into the same formula.
Botanicals allow us to formulate products around both function and ritual. Depending on the blend, we may work with herbs, roots, flowers, seeds, natural exfoliants, mineral clays, activated charcoal, or botanical infusions. These ingredients contribute texture, cleansing character, exfoliation, appearance, or simply a deeper connection to the plants and traditions that inspired the formula.
Scent is an important part of the Bogue experience, but we want our aromas to begin with plants. We use steam-distilled and cold-pressed essential oils to build layered botanical blends from woods, herbs, flowers, resins, grasses, and citrus. This approach has shaped many of our signature BESPOKE, WELLNESS, and Valley of the Moon blends and allows scent to become part of the ritual and character of each product.
Our approach begins with purposeful formulation rather than following a single definition of "natural." We consider how ingredients work together, how a product feels during use, and the role it serves in someone's daily routine. Goat milk, plant oils and butters, essential oils, clays, and botanicals are combined differently depending on whether we are creating a moisturizing soap, an exfoliating bar, shaving soap, lotion, hair and body product, or aromatherapy blend.
Cold process soapmaking is where the Bogue craft began. The process transforms oils and fats through saponification and naturally produces glycerin as part of the finished soap. It also gives us the freedom to develop distinctive formulas with goat milk, botanical oils, butters, clays, herbs, exfoliants, and essential oils. The bars are then given time to cure, contributing to the firm, long-lasting character of traditionally made soap.
Ojai influences both how we work and what inspires us. The valley's citrus groves, mountains, chaparral, botanical traditions, agricultural history, artists, and long connection to wellness have all found their way into Bogue's approach to product development. From mountain-inspired soaps to botanical essential oil blends, our surroundings continue to provide a sense of place that makes the collection distinctly Bogue.
The product range has expanded considerably, but the underlying philosophy remains connected to the original soap. Goat milk soap led naturally to shaving products, lotions, hair and body care, aromatherapy, and other botanical wellness products. New formulas and mediums give us different ways to work with plants and essential oils, while the core approach—purposeful ingredients, small-batch craftsmanship, and meaningful daily rituals—continues to guide what we create.
